Similar to apples, watermelons grown in China are covered with pesticides. The pesticides are intended to help watermelons grow rapidly, thereby increasing China’s exports to other countries.

However, the pesticides often find their way into the inside of the fruit. If you dig in a watermelon exported from China, you are likely to fill your body with some of these harmful chemicals. It is better to shop locally and buy fresh watermelons to avoid getting sick from pesticide-contaminated fruit.
